Ready for Ramadan? 10 ways to prepare your body for fasting

imageReady for Ramadan? 10 ways to prepare your body for fasting

May 16, 2017

Eidmubarak – Some of us think we will suddenly be ready when Ramadan starts, but planning will make the transition a lot easier. The following are 10 ways to prepare your body for the month of fasting.

Food consumption: Begin with eating moderate quantities. Do not splurge on food because Ramadan is approaching. This will only increase your appetite and make it more difficult to fast.

Early breakfast: During Ramadan, we wake up early for Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal before the fast begins. It is important not to skip this. Start having an early breakfast from now to help your body get used to the earlier hours, especially if you are not much of a breakfast eater.

Do not snack: Get used to having three main meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – and avoiding snacking in between. During Ramadan, you will have to get used to having two main meals, Suhoor and Iftar. This way, you will only have to cut out one meal. Continue reading

JESUS IN ISLAM AND CHRISTMAS

img_0578EidMubarak – Many Christians are unaware that the true spirit of reverence which Muslims display towards Jesus and his mother Mary spring from the fountainhead of their faith as prescribed in the Holy Quran. Most do not know that a Muslim does not take the name of Jesus , without saying Eesa alai-hiss-salaam i.e. (Jesus peace be upon him).
Many Christians do not know that in the Holy Quran Jesus is mentioned by name twenty-five times. For example:
.. We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. .. Quran 2:87
Behold! the angels said: “O Mary! Allah gives thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah. Quran 3:45
.. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of Allah .. Quran 4:171
And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him .. Quran 5:46

THE BLESSED ‘DAY OF ARAFAT’

imageTHE BLESSED ‘DAY OF ARAFAT’

Praise be to Allah alone, who guides His servants to worship Him and blesses them with special seasons, days and nights as opportunities to draw closer to Him and His Pleasure. The 9th Day of Dul-Hijjah is one such day and it is known as the Day of Arafat. It is the day when millions of pilgrims gather at the plain of Arafat as an obligatory ritual of Haj.

Almost anyone who has performed Haj agrees that the standing on Arafat is the greatest part of Haj, as it is the place where a person can begin to truly know himself, his deficiencies and weaknesses. And in acknowledging his faults he also can come to know of the presence of His Creator in his life, of His limitless forgiveness and generosity. He recognizes that all he can do at that moment is turn to Allah, seek His mercy and forgiveness.

Just as those on Haj are blessed with the opportunity to turn to Allah, repent and “come out as sinless as a newborn child” (Al-Bukhari), the ones not on Haj also get a somewhat similar opportunity. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Fasting the Day of Arafat (9th Dul-Hijjah) is an expiation for (the sins of) the previous year and an expiation for (the sins of) the coming year.” (Muslim) Continue reading

THE FIRST 10 DAYS OF DUL HIJJAH

PRAISE be to Allah Who has created time and has made some times better than others, some months and days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy toward His slaves. This encourages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them more eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepare himself for death and supply himself in readiness for the Day of Judgment.
